"Over the Generations"

2024. Installation. Mixed media. Variable dimensions.

The installation looks at memory, remembering and the brief moments that go with it. In my own case as well as in the case of others, I have noticed that stories change depending on the person who tells them and the factors that influence them. The stories fit together in one way or another, so what was the true or original one, and is it really necessary to know?
In the drawings, some places have been gradually repeated, changed, simplified, reminiscent of a rearrangement of a garden. Some parts are spaced apart, leaving abstractly filled or empty spaces in between. Following the order of the drawing process, the following text is written on the back of the images:

The first flowerbed that was really mine, or was it?

I didn’t have my choice of flowers on the circular piece of land, and I couldn’t even choose the arrangement at first. I would have happily turned the circle into a rectangle, like the others, the adults, had.

I wanted to dig up all the flowers in my own flowerbed and replant them as I liked. When, after a lot of pleading with my grandmother, we dug up half of the flowerbed,

I ran out of patience.

So how are we going to put these flowers here?

Burrowing in the soil with one plant, then another.

Eventually, quietly moving away from the mess that was created.
